Books Of March 2013!

If you saw last month's post then you saw that I actually read more books than I expected and this month is the complete opposite. I don't think I've been on such a bad reading slump in a long time. I had my TBR for this month specifically planned out but unfortunately, that went down the drain. The only book I read this month was Warm Bodies. I'm not going to blame the book because it was actually a really good book. I feel bad for not being in a better mood because I think I would have been able to cherish each word better. Now, I have to leave Looking for Alaska and Sharp Objects for another time.

by
I gave Warm Bodies  a 4 STARS. I loved the storyline. It's the first zombie book I've read and I'm definitely ready for more now. I loved the characters and how it all played out. I'm actually a bit surprised to see that there are more books in the series because I wouldn't of minded if the story just ended with this book. I'm curious to see what happens in the second book though because there are still a lot of questions left unanswered. Overall, I do recommend this book. Now, I just need to go watch the movie.

Liebster Award!

Hey guys! I've been nominated for a Liebster Award from Life with RA is a Pain. I'm really honoured and grateful. I think I've been nominated before, but didn't realize it or understand what a Liebster Award was. I've read through Ior's post and I'm pretty sure I get it now. I'm really excited and didn't think my blog would ever be acknowledged. I'm just a girl who loves music and loves books. I just wanted to share what I thought should be loved by people the way I enjoy them.

So these are the questions I've been asked to answer.
1. Why did you create a blog?
I created my blog because I've always loved booktubers and book bloggers. I love music for every occasion and of course I love reading. I decided to just put them together and make a blog. I've also been inspired by many other book bloggers and bloggers in general.
2.  On average how much time a week do you spend blogging or doing blog related   activities?
Unfortunately, I don't blog as much as I'd like to. Even though I don't post a lot though, I am still always ready to reply to any type of emails. If you count that, then I guess I do blog related activities at least a few times a week.
3. What is your favourite season, and why?
My favourite season would be spring or autumn. Summer is too hot. Winter is too cold. Spring and autumn is just right. You can wear a jacket if you want but you don't have to.
4. What do you like most about youself?
I feel so weird answering a question like this but I'll be optimistic and say that I love everything about myself. Not in a snobby way, just in a I accept myself for who I am way.
5. Who is the most important person in your life?
The most important person in my life is definitely my mum. Of course I do get angry at her sometimes but I still love her. She's been an inspiration. The most important people in my life though are definitely my friends. Without them, my life wouldn't be as amazing as it is today.
6. What type of music do you listen to most?
Well like my blog says, I love pop and k-pop. I honestly don't listen to one or the other more and I like my mix. Aside from that though, I like specifically dance-pop, electro-pop, rap, and well all of that in korean. I'm not sure though, I just like anything that's good.
7. What is your most prized possession?
I don't really have a prized possession. Nothing that I couldn't live without. I love my electronics though, if that counts. My laptop, iPod and camera.
8. What is the one thing that gets on your nerves?
If you know me in real life, you know that A LOT of things get on my nerves. Right now though, I just really wish everyone would believe in themselves more. That gets on my nerves.
9. What do you love most about your followers?
I love my followers for taking the time to read my gibberish.
10. Have you become close friends with any of your followers?
Sadly, not really. I wouldn't mind it though. I think the blogging community is a really nice one. Maybe one day.
11. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Well of course I'd love to be prettier, smarter, funnier, better, but we can't have everything. I would want to be more beautiful, on the inside.

11 Facts About Me
- I've never been overseas.
- Get into really big reading slumps easily. Like right now.
- I'm a hopeless romantic.
- Cockroaches scare me more than spiders do.
- On weekends, I spend at least 10 minutes picking out what to wear.
- When I'm sad, I blast my music really loudly and just cry it all out.
- I have a weird obsession with quotes.
- I'm an atheist though I understand and appreciate other religion's beliefs.
- If I had to pick a favourite colour, I'd choose pink, but I'm not racist, I love all colours.
- I don't have a colourful wardrobe. I fashion but I keep my style pretty neutral.
- I spend many hours of my life watching tv shows and dramas.

Guest Post: Evolution of A DJ by Ellen Harger

Guest post by Ellen Harger. Her self-published, debut novel, "Strong Enough" was released February 25, 2013. Her blog is My Mother Stuttered where the synopsis can be found.

She is thrilled to write her first guest blog post on Music Plus Books.

If you've taken a writing course, you'll likely cower in fear whenever someone suggests using copyrighted music in a novel. You've been conditioned with electrical shock critiques. BAD! zzzzttt! BAD! ZZZZZzzzttttT! Fried writer with chicken, coming right up!

If you're a reader who has thought, "I've never heard of that song," and stopped reading only to lose an hour on the internet, you've experienced why music is discouraged in novels. Even more likely, you rolled your eyes and thought, "Pretentious twit. I have no idea what you're talking about. And I'm not impressed." Author 0, Instructor 1.

But why are some authors tempted to combine real music with novels? Why not make up lyrics? Yeah, and I'll just pick up a guitar and be Eddie Van Halen, too. I blame movie soundtracks. Off the record, I'm a huge fan of movie soundtracks. So despite suffering from shock treatment via class critques, I wanted to include all the lyrics that ever moved me.

Whitney, the main character of my novel "Strong Enough," became a DJ to justify my use of musicians' words. But when I read a book with a similar technique and skipped all of the lyrics, it crystalized. If I wasn't going to work that hard to figure out what the author was trying to suggest, why should I ask others to do the same? Lightbulb--lyrics are cumbersome tricks that break a reader's enjoyment and a crutch for the uncertain author.

We experience music and novels differently. Describing the sound of a song for a reader is tricky so lyrics remained critical to me--they just couldn't be quoted. I had to do the work and  replace them with character comments or the weaving of particular phrases into narration. Whitney's musical selections had to tell stories that were plausible to both the fictitious and real audience.

On a personal whim, I decided to purchase music that had Superman as, or in, the title. It was a surprisingly large list. I opened up my search to include lyrics and very first radio show was born. Whitney's first show of the novel, Black Box Songs, was designed as a training exercise for her while the MTSYWB show gave me the opportunity to mention Sheryl Crow's "Strong Enough" without being obvious.

My final touch was naming each chapter with a song title. A few chapters were already titled after songs that embodied their arc, so I decided to turn the chapter list into a playlist. There were four non-song chapter titles that I really liked so I made up artists and albums. It was as close as I got to writing my own lyrics. Just call me E. Vedder.

Writing is an art. When done well, the reader is unaware of the work. When done right (with careful intention), breaking the rules can be good. And when stubborn enough, an author will endure the electro-shock to write the story she imagined.

Review: COLLAGE by U-KISS 유키스

Collage U-Kiss
Genres: K-Pop, Pop, Synth-Pop, Dance-Pop, R&B, Dance
Released: 7 March 2013
Members: Soohyun, Kiseop, Eli, AJ, Hoon, Kevin, Dongho
NH Media

This is my first full album review. Today I'm reviewing U-Kiss's newest album COLLAGE. Because I'm doing every song, each review will be brief. First of all though, can I just say, OMG! Stop Girl is one of my all time ultimate favourites and I'm really excited for their come back. I give the album an overall 3 STARS. The only songs I'm not reviewing are the instrumentals. First thing's first:
1. Step By Step (Intro)
This is 48 seconds on pure awesomeness. It kind of has a Skrillex feel to it. The intro is an array of amazingly put together electronic, synthy sounds, that are put together effortlessly. Love the dubstepness. It's a great start to the album and a wonderful accompaniment for the next song.
2. Standing Still
The beginning of this song kind of sounds like the beginning of Rolling In The Deep. Then you hear the lyrics and it's nothing like Adele. The English sounds just a little bit off but other than that, the English lyrics in the song are fine: "Cause I'm on fire but you keep on standing still". The Korean lyrics are symbolic and metaphoric. Very fancy. They basically express the how even though they're hurting (on fire), 'you' don't do anything and "keep on standing still". The parts in this song all fit together really well. Me, being the bias person that I am, like Eli's part the best of course. I absolutely love his rap! Then AJ comes in and it's like D: But I love it too. Number one song. I love the whole song and I'm glad they chose this to be the title song.
3. Can't Breathe 숨도 못 쉬어
I didn't like this song as much as the previous but it's still okay. It has a nice uplifting tempo and atmosphere. Unfortunately, I feel like the song is a bit scattered and their voices don't effortlessly move together like they could. At first, everything seemed weird but once it grew on me, the chorus become my favourite part. The chorus and the rapping was the only looking forward to though. I like the emphasis on "so" in the chorus.
4. Missing You
Sorry, not my thing. Favourite part? The music in the background. It sounds really really cool. I liked the song somewhat but the repetition of "Missing you" was a tad to overboard for me. Though it doesn't suit me well, it has a very soothing tone and I would listen to this song when I'm sad. BUT then there's like a little bit of a rap and then that's when the whole song starts becoming amazing. There's some piano and the whole song becomes just that little bit happier.
5.Bad Person 나쁘다
I was a bit shocked the first time I heard this. The beginning was unexpected and this ballad isn't U-Kiss's usual style but I actually liked this song. The repetition of  "나쁘다"   in some parts of the song in the background sounds really nice. It sounds like a whisper and then the music kind of stops for a split second. This adds a really nice element to the song. Even the rapping sound more ballady and nice than it normally does. The lyrics have a sad meaning about leaving, pain, breakups and all that. Surprisingly my third favourite song on here.
6. More Painful Than Pain 아픔보다 아픈
Definitely my second favourite song on the album! It was so extremely beautiful. A song about empty love. I kind of wanted to cry just listening to this song. This was a duet by Soohyun and Hoon and it was a perfect ballad in every way possible. It's a bit cliche but I love it anyway. Their voices sound amazing together.
7. My Reason
Yep, another ballad. This is definitely the sweetest though. The other songs are all so depressing. This one was soooooooooooo cute! About the one, the first time meeting and all the other cute things you'd expect in a song like this. Even though sometimes I feel like Kevin always gets the most lines and attention, he deserves it, and he deserves this solo. It sounds amazing and because his American, the English is spot on.
8. Party All The Time
Equal third favourite. I can't choose between this and Bad Person. I love them both for different reasons. This song was totally up my alley. I loved the up beat music. This was AJ and Eli's duet. They aren't the best at singing but in this song, they showed that even though they are rappers, they can sing. I loved every single part of this song and the extremely happy and fun lyrics. I loved the bridge the most "If you are sexy and you know it put your hands up put your hands up". Yes sir.
9. Sweety Girl
This song totally reminds me of Grease! I can't put my finger on what song it was or maybe it wasn't even Grease but it definitely sounds like them. The song starts off with a guitar riff and it sounds alright but I really really don't like this song. I didn't even like the rapping. Shocker right? Yeah, didn't even like the rapping. The lyrics are alright but doesn't make up for the rest in my opinion.
10. Cause I Love You 사랑하니까
This song is about staying together with no regrets. It is better than a few other songs but I still don't quite like this one. It does get better as the song goes on but I feel like the beginning of a song should be just as good. The background music though is really nice with a techno feel. Finally, of course, yes I do like the rapping in this one.

Wow, this was a long post. Like I said though, there are really really great songs and then there's the ones that make this album an overall 3 instead of a 5. Oh well, good album though. Check Standing Still on YouTube here.

KERRY KING: MERAGUKAN LAMBARDO BISA KEMBALI KE SLAYER

4 March 2013

[Chimot/Banjarsari Underground]

Books Of February 2013!

I've had an extremely productive month! Well I guess I've actually had a very unproductive month since I've only been reading but I've been productive in reading. I finished five books this month. These are the four out of the five that I actually liked. I also read UnWholly but that unfortunately was a disappointment. Click here for that post. Without further ado, here it is:

Hopeless (Hopeless, #1)

This one gets a special mini review cause that's just how awesome it is. I know I said that this was going to be a March read but I finished Unravel Me so I was like, meh why not? I went through it so fast! I loved the characters. I loved the emotions it brought out. There were definitely some parts I didn't expect but I love how each character connected. The writing was also amazing. I can't wait for the second book even though I wouldn't mind if this was a novel on it's own. Go read it! NOW!

I definitely give all these books 5 STARS. I wish that I could've liked every book I read this month but oh well. 80% of them were amazing so I'm happy. I'm currently reading Warm Bodies. I just started so I'm not going to judge it yet but we'll see.
