I've done quite a few reviews, I'm not sure but I think I've done one for every song that has been released in the album so far. What I'm waiting for though is the full movie soundtrack! I can't wait to listen to the whole thing. I want to do a full album and movie review of Catching Fire. Like, come on, look at all the awesome artists contributing! The movie section will probably just be me gushing but either way, I'm excited. I pretty sure I'll be watching it on the 23rd of November. I'm pretty sure we're all waiting for the movie! I'm hoping it won't disappoint me like the first movie did.

The wonderful tracklist...
1. Atlas - Coldplay
2. Silhouettes - Of Monsters and Men
3. Elastic Heart - Sia (ft. The Weeknd & Diplo)
4. Lean - The National
5. We Remain - Christina Aguilera

Music Review: Number Nine by T-ARA

Genres: K-Pop
Members: Boram, Qri, Soyeon, Eunjung, Hyomin, Jiyeon
Released: 10 October 2013
Core Contents Media

I've always liked T-ARA but I've never loved them. I was hoping for something to blow my mind but even though Number Nine didn't, I still liked it. I'm not sure what exactly the title is meant to mean. Some say it's just the ninth single that they've released. That sounds legit but I think there's a little more meaning than that. I love their sexy appeal (in a not creepy way) and they definitely used it well in the seductive music video and in the overall feel of the song.

Source
Usually, I like the electronic beats that they have in most of their songs but this song just felt awkward to me. I feel like the mix of vocals and electronica did blend like they're supposed to. For once, I really didn't like the beats and I really preferred the actual singing. Number Nine really could've done better with less of the electronic beats. I do still enjoy the rest of the song and find the melody pretty catchy. I have a feeling it will all grow on me.

I've seen T-ARA do better with their vocals but I don't have a problem with how they sing in this song. My only problem is their english. But then again, it's always sucked so I can't expect anything more. They sound alright when they say 'Number Nine' but there's this part that goes "I'm addict, I'm addict" x10,000 and the sad part is, it doesn't make sense and it doesn't even sound right.

In the end, I will get this song because I like it. The music video is just wow. I don't know how to feel about the dancing in this one but I liked the acting and all. Like always, check it out! I can't guarantee that you'll like it since like I said, the electronic music is a bit weird but watch the video just cause it's cool. I'm sure you'll like that part at least, even if you don't like the actual song.

Music Review: We Remain by Christina Aguilera

Genre: Soundtrack
Released: 1 October 2013
Universal Republic

I love Christina Aguilera. And I've loved all the previous songs on the Catching Fire soundtrack but... We Remain just isn't my cup of tea. It's good and I think other people may like it but for me, it's just not right. I like songs like Beautiful, Hurt and even Your Body which she rocked so well. But I guess it's not really her fault.

My problem with the song is that I felt as though throughout the whole song, I was just waiting for that awesome part that I can rock out to. As I was watching the lyric video, I was so ready for the fast part. I kept thinking, NOW and then it never came.

Other than that, I love the empowering message that a Catching Fire soundtrack song has to have. Even the title itself sounds strong and independent just like Katniss. "Whatever happens here, we remain." The good message reminds me of Beautiful and in that sense, this song was perfect for Christina Aguilera. Her voice is absolutely beautiful like always. But like I said before, there was no moment or verse in the song where her voice reached it's maximum power.

Like always, I recommend listening to the song if you haven't already. While you're at it, listen to the whole Catching Fire soundtrack! Even though the whole album hasn't been released, quite a bit of it has been.

Sit Tight Sunday #13: Modern Times by IU

Sit Tight Sunday is a weekly feature on my blog for me to showcase upcoming music. The original post can be found here.

100613_IU_Newalbumsandsinglespreview

Genres: K-Pop
Released: 10 October 2013
LOEN Entertainment

IU hasn't released a new album in I don't even know how long. I'm pretty sure it was like just before I got into K-Pop which was years ago. I've listened to her past albums but I'm excited to see something I've never seen before. She has a really high voice that I really like but I've never enjoyed her 'cute' concept. I'm hoping for something more fierce but I'll just have to wait and see. Out of all the teasers, this one seems promising. Only a few more days now!

And the tracklist...
1. Love of B (With Park Ju Won)
2. Everyone Has a Secret (feat. Gain of Brown Eyed Girls)
3. Between Lips (50cm)
4, Pink Shoes
5. Modern Times
6. Day I Hate
7. Obliviate
8. Let’s Walk Together (feat. Cho Baek Ho)
9. Havana
10. Gloomy Clock (feat. Jonghyun of SHINee)
11. Midday’s Dream (feat. Yang Hee Eun)
12. Wait
13. (Bonus Track) Voice Mail (Korean Ver.)

Discussion: Email Subscriptions? + 500 Followers

Before I begin, I'd just like to say thank you for 500 subscribers for both Bloglovin' and GFC! Wow, what a coincidence. I'm not doing a giveaway but I already have like 10 going on right now so feel free to check those out here. Thank you for all your support along the way. Thank you to anyone who has read 1 or 100 of my posts. I'm so grateful.

Today, what I really wanted to talk about is that little box in the bottom right corner. Not the GFC followers, not the Bloglovin' followers, the Feedburner followers. The email followers. The RSS followers? I'm not really sure what the proper name is. It's clear that I have no where near as many Feedburner subscribers compared to GFC and Bloglovin'. With GFC, and Google Reader now gone, it's basically, you follow the blog and never see one of their posts again. I mean, I'm sure some people keep up with the blogs they follow through GFC but it's a small small majority. And then there's the Bloglovin' followers. I'm not to sure how many people keep up with reading the Bloglovin' blogs. I have the mobile app so it's really easy for me.

Okay well my point is, when you subscribe via email, it's pretty much impossible to ignore new posts. Unless of course you're using an email account you never check. Some blogs have email followers that completely outrun the Bloglovin', GFC etc. Other blogs, like mine, have the the email followers lagging behind. Like I'm not saying it's a race by any means, just pointing it out.

I know this isn't true for everyone, but just as a blanket statement, I think that the blogs that have heaps more email subscribers are the ones with better quality posts. You'd have to love the blog a lot to follow them via email over GFC. Like I said, it's not always true because for example, if you're like me, you never follow blogs via email.

So basically, I really have no idea what I'm trying to say. I know it sounded like I was complaining. I'm really not. Trust me, I'm super appreciative of every single person who has ever taken the time to follow me in any way. But I'll be honest, I appreciate the ones who read my blog more. So if you're reading this, thank you.

Let me know your thoughts. I don't know how to feel about it all right now. What do you think about email subscriptions? Better than GFC/Bloglovin'/Linky/NetworkedBlogs?

Music Review: Elastic Heart by Sia

SIA ft THE WEEKND & DIPLO - ELASTIC HEART

Genre: Soundtrack
Released: 1 October 2013
Universal Republic

Yay for more Hunger Games! And yay for some Sia! Someone in particular will like this post. You know who you are, hehe. But anyway, back to the point. Elastic Heart is another song revealed that is apart of the upcoming Catching Fire Soundtrack! I reviews Atlas by Coldplay awhile back and I will also be reviewing We Remain by Christina Aguilera soon. Elastic Heart is by Sia and it is featuring The Weeknd and Diplo. Plus, did you know Sia was Australian? Woot woot!

I love this song! When I found it, I was double excited because one, it's by Sia and two, CATCHING FIRE! I can't wait for the movie but the soundtrack being released slowly makes it better. I love the way Elastic Heart is produced. It has a really nice electronic but calm feel. Sia's voice was a perfect pick because I feel like her vocals fit this song really well. I also like The Weeknd but I don't feel like more than one artist was necessary.

Even though the melody is catchy, it's probably not the kind of song that would get stuck in my head. Either way, I love it and I love the lyrics. I like it when songs go for the metaphoric and meaningful lyrics instead of "let's party" lyrics. Another reason why soundtrack songs are some of my favourite.
"I’m like a rubber band, until you pull too hard
But I may snap and I move close."

Just beautiful. Give the song a listen!

Music Of September 2013!

I feel like it been so long since I've done on of these posts and it really has been. I missed August because I really wasn't in the mood to get any new music until now. I didn't get too much music but I did try to catch up on some music that I probably should've downloaded ages ago. If I missed anything super big or amazing, let me know! Once upon a time, I used to do these in alphabetical order by artist's name but I'm much too lazy now. What I have done though is separate the Korean music from the American music. I haven't had time to get all the stuff you guys have been recommending but I will definitely do so one day. I just wanted to update my playlist with all the mainstream stuff first.

Sit Tight Sunday #12: Hope Torture 희망고문 by Song Jieun 송지은

Sit Tight Sunday is a weekly feature on my blog for me to showcase upcoming music. The original post can be found here.

Genres: R&B, Pop, K-Pop
Released: 30 September 2013
TS Entertainment

Hello! Sit Tight Sunday is back! I missed last week but it's okay. Today, I'm going to be featuring Hope Torture which is coming out tomorrow! I'm just so extremely excited. The song is by Song Jieun who is apart of K-Pop group Secret which is probably my favourite girl group ever. I'm so glad she's decided to release something solo. Like please, watch the M/V teaser and tell me you don't want to see the whole song. The teaser is just filled with film techniques. My inner literary nerd just wants so start screaming out film techniques and effects. Even though it's rather gory and graphic, it's beautiful. So extremely super duper excited!

Music Review: Dark Horse by Katy Perry

PRISM (Deluxe Version), Katy Perry

Genre: Pop
Released: 17 September 2013
℗ 2013 Capitol Records

Finally doing another music review! I know it's been awhile but I'm getting back into things. Today, I'll be featuring Katy Perry's latest release. The second song revealed from her upcoming album, Prism. Dark Horse has been out for quite awhile but it's definitely not had the same impact as Roar had. Either way, I love this song!

So first of all, the beginning is like wow. I'm not sure how I want to feel about it. Every time I listen to it, it kind of reminds me of a little kid whining. I don't know if that's what its meant to be. But after that has passed, I love it. I feel like Katy Perry could do better with her vocals but then again, her singing has never amazed me. Also, Juicy J's rapping just isn't right. It's too slow and then it's faster but still too slow.

The best thing about this song is definitely how catchy it is. I feel like most of Katy Perry's songs are so popular because of how easily they can get stuck in your head. How anyone can sing along. Even though the lyrics are very simple, I guess that's an appealing factor. I'm just glad the lyrics aren't stupid and have some meaning to it.

So all in all, I really really like this song. If you just ignore the rap part, it's amazing. I like it better than Roar but I can see why Katy Perry and her record label decided to choose Roar as the main song. I've attached a no rap edit as well just so that you can listen to both.

Mini Music Reviews + Giveaway: Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey + Day 5

This post is very very late but I've been really busy! I'm so sorry but better late than never. Today, I wanted to do a comparison mini review kind of thing between the remix and the original or Summertime Sadness by Lana Del Rey. The remix is by Cedric Gervais. I've been reading a lot of the recommendations from my last post and even though this song is from early last year, I think maybe a lot of people would like this song. I know it's already super popular but I love both versions so I'm going to feature it anyway. Some people said they liked Alternative and some said the average top 40 music is way to pop. Even though this is too, it's definitely aimed at older audiences as well as young. The rating for both songs are the same. 100%
Born to Die, Lana Del Rey

Genres: Alternative, Music, Rock, Adult Alternative, Pop, Pop/Rock
Released: 27 January 2012
℗ 2012 Lana Del Rey, Polydor Ltd. (UK)

The original version is a lot more subtle. I love how soft it is. The beautiful strings and layers in the beginning of the song definitely gets the listener into the right mood for the rest of the song. I absolutely adore Lana Del Rey's voice and how in this version of the song, her voice is emphasised display it's full potential. The lyrics are also absolutely gorgeous. The whole song makes me want to swag and try to sing along. Emphasis on the 'try' because I can barely get as low as her voice gets. Love love love.

Summertime Sadness (Lana Del Rey vs. Cedric Gervais) [Cedric Gervais Remix] [Radio Edit] - Single, Lana Del Rey

Genres: Dance, Music
Released: 08 August 2013
℗ 2013 Lana Del Rey, Polydor Ltd. (UK) / Interscope Records.

I don't know if I can say I like this version better. I honestly love both so much and I guess it depends on what mood I want. The Cedric Gervais remix had a much more upbeat feel. I find it amazing how such a mellow song can be made into an awesome dance track like this one. Even though I give both songs 5 stars to the production, this is way better. Lana Del Rey's vocals aren't the most significant instrument in this version though since the instruments, beats and synths steal the show.

Once again, I love both takes on the song so check out both. For the giveaway, I'm giving away the whole Born To Die Paradise Edition album plus the Cedric Gervais remixes of the song. If you already have them, we can choose another one. This giveaway is international so electronic copies only.

Discussion + Giveaway: Books & Music On My Blog + Day 4

Hello everyone. Today, I'm going to talk about a pretty complicated topic for me. Just hear me out. It's going to be a very unorganised post but here goes. To really explain this, I have to go into the nitty gritties, all the way back to when I decided to start this blog. At first, I was going to post twice a month. What I read and what I listened to. Then two of my friends wanted to start about a book blog, so I was like hey, I how about you two do the books and I'll do the music. They agreed, but then they never mentioned it again.

So then, this was the time when I started promoting my blog. In January, I realised that I had to change all the 'we's to 'I's and I had to do it myself. I also realised that I had to post more. A LOT more. AND THEN I realised how much content books needed. Before I knew it, I was posting about books more than ever. I fell deeper and deeper into the book blog world and left my music sector hanging.

I tried my best to keep my books and music as even as possible. It was really hard and it's still really hard today. So many times, I've regretted making this blog a music and book blog. So many times, I've thought about just stopping all my music posts. I've wondered, would anyone notice? It's really hard for me knowing that probably 95%+ of my followers are here for just the books. Knowing that I'm probably spamming them with posts they really don't want to read is tough.

All my complaining aside, I'm going to try my very best to continue with music on my blog. There's no way I can keep it 50/50 but I'll try. Shout out to Robyn Jones who manages to comment on pretty much all of my music posts. I don't think she realises it, but those comments really keep me going. So thank you from the bottom of my heart.

So guys, I think you realise why I ALWAYS ask for music recommendations. What genres do you like? Artists? I need to know because I want to keep as many of my supporters happy as possible. I know a large majority of people still enjoy music, I just want to know what music it is.

Ramble finished. Phew, sorry for the long discussion! But now onto the giveaway. To celebrate one year and hopefully more years to come of books and music united on my blog, what other giveaway could I do? $15 to books, and $15 to music. Your choices! International because I love every single one of you for sticking around. Even if you're new.

Music Review + Giveaway: Work Bitch by Britney Spears + Day 2 - Album of Choice

Work B**ch - Single, Britney Spears

Genres: Pop, Music
Released: 16 September 2013
℗ 2013 RCA Records

To get it out of the way, I was rather disappointed with this song. I was so excited but when I heard it, I was let down. It's no where near as good as I'd hope. Britney released the song a day early because it was leaked. I felt really bad for her because the countdown she had was really hyped. I really shouldn't be doing a negative review when I'm celebrating my blogaversary but I guess I'm celebrating honesty as well.

Firstly, the whole song is really repetitive. I mean, "you wanna work bitch" isn't even that amazing. However, it is motivating. I could probably actually work out to this with all the "you wanna hot body" parts. It's not catchy though which is why I was disappointed. I feel like there's nothing to take away from this song. The only good parts were the parts that weren't singing. I wasn't too big of a fan on the talk sing that Britney was going for.

The production and tempo were fairly fine though. I did like the music and beats. So like I said, anything that wasn't her voice. I feel so bad dissing Britney Spears since I know she's loved. I do still love her though and I will listen to this song. Especially the bridge, where it slows down. If you haven't listened to it yet, I'm sure you want to.

And now onto the giveaway. It is international and the prize will be sent via email. You can win $20 worth of music. You can an album, two or a combination of singles. It's all up to you. Make sure you enter everday for your chance to win $150 worth of prizes. All giveaways here.

One Year Blogaversary: Massive Giveaway + Day 1 - $10 Giftcard

In exactly one week, my blog will be officially up for one whole year. All the people that have been around for years will probably think that one year is nothing but it's rather crazy for me. I never would've thought that I'd be able to keep up the blog for so long. I've met so many new people and been through so many experiences. Without my blog, my knowledge of HTML, design, Photoshop etc. would've never grown to what it is today. Yay for my one year blogaversary! (blogiversary, blogeversary... how?!)

So honestly, even though I've had my blog up since 2012, I didn't REALLY start blogging until February or March this year. So you could say that really, it's not my blog's birthday yet but I was too excited. I wanted to celebrate! I remember my very first milestone giveaway, all the way back in May when I had my 100 followers giveaway. I'm amazed at how much my blog has grown. I love all the people who always take the time to comment on my blog. To all the people who have ever supported my blog in any way, thank you. I can't express how grateful I am.

I remember my first review. It was for The Selection in October. Then my first music review, Set Me On Fire in Januaray. God, I was such a bad reviewer. Even though I'm still not perfect, I'm happy with how I rate my books, music and how I set out my reviews. I was also, clearly, a very in frequent blogger. The more I got into it though, the more I posted! In the last few months I've been posting A LOT, well a lot for me. But slowly, I've been trying to calm it down. I don't want to spam anyone with my crazy posts.

Okay now on to the part you've been waiting for. The giveaway. It's will be $150+. I'll be having a giveaway everyday for the next week in the lead up to my blogaversary. I get that ads and affiliate links and all that can be rather annoying but, they do go back into you guys. Most of this giveaway is only here because of the money I've gotten from clicked ads, impressions and buying from my affiliate links over this past year.

Monday: $10 Amazon Gift Card/ PayPal Transfer
Tuesday: Your Choice of Any Album/s Up To $20
Wednesday: Your Choice of Any E-book/s Up To $20
Thursday: $15 for E-book/s + $15 for Music

Saturday: 3 E-books: Shift by Em Bailey + The Knife Of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness + Book of Choice

All giveaways will be INTERNATIONAL and will be open to midnight on the 16th of October, one month after today. Winners will have 48 hours to reply to the email.

Music Review: Stupid In Love 착해빠졌어 by Soyu 소유 and Mad Clown 매드클라운

착해 빠졌어 (Stupid in love) - Single

Genres: Hip-Hop/Rap, Music,K-Pop
Released: Sep 10, 2013
℗ (주)스타쉽 엑스(Starship X)

There's been so much hype around this song right now in the K-Pop world. And OMG, it deserves it so much. This is definitely one of the best songs I've heard in a really long time. Soyo from SISTAR and Mad Clown, one of  Korea's best rappers. This collaboration was the best idea ever.

Firstly, the piano sounds amazing. I love the melody it creates at the beginning and throughout the song. It makes such a beautiful sound. And the piano isn't even the best part. I love Soyu (SoYou)'s voice so much in this song. It sounds absolutely just angelic. BUT that's not even the best part...

Mad Clown's rapping is like WOW! I just can't even. It's just amazing. Like I know it sounds weird but his rapping is beautiful. You're like whut? How can rapping be beautiful but it is. I used to think T.O.P's rapping was spectacular. Not anymore.

Then, there's the lyrics. The lyrics are absolutely gorgeous. They're about drifting apart and letting go and all that good but sad stuff. Please, like go and read the English translation here. Just give it a listen. I've been listening to this song on repeat. I've embedded a lyrics video and a short version of the m/v.

Music Review: Atlas by Coldplay

Atlas (From “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” Soundtrack) - Single, Coldplay

Genres: Soundtrack, Music
Released: 06 September 2013

WHO IS EXCITED FOR CATCHING FIRE? I know I definitely am! And I'm excited to be reviewing Atlas by Coldplay. A new song from the soundtrack! Coldplay hasn't been around for ages. I'm excited that their back and I'm excited that there's just a little bit more coming from Catching Fire.

First of all, I'll be honest, I don't LOVE this song but I do like it. Just to get it out of the way, the bad thing for me is that it's really repetitive. The whole song is literally like ten lines. Also, the song was very mellow, almost too mellow. It has a very dreamy feel that kind of made me bored. It was beautiful but it wasn't intriguing. It wasn't interesting in any way but I'd love to see how this song is incorporated with the movie.

However, I did like that the song was different. It wasn't Coldplay's normal rock and it wasn't too mainstream pop. My favourite element has got to be the piano. I also liked synths used in this song but really, other than that, it was pretty plain. I've seen people saying that it will be a movie credits song. I can totally see that happening. It feels like one of those songs you'd listen to as everyone stands up, throws away their empty popcorn boxes and walks out of the cinema.

I will definitely listen to it though. Just maybe not when I'm trying to feel uplifting. The most energetic part of the song is the chorus and honestly, even that part kind of made me feel sleepy. Like sleepy in a good way of course. Definitely give it a go. The lyric video is out and you'll see that it's quite repetitive. ~ Carry the world ~

Sit Tight Sunday #10: Tattoos by Jason Derulo

Sit Tight Sunday is a weekly feature on my blog for me to showcase upcoming music. The original post can be found here.

Genres: Pop
Released: 20 September 2013
Warner Bros, Record Inc.

I mean ~Jason Derulo~. Tattoos will be his third studio album. Songs like Talk Dirty and The Other Side  will be on this album which makes me double excited because I love those songs. Only just over a week until the album comes out. I love the cover art as well. I think it looks really cool. A mix between a photograph and an illustration. It's really artistic. Hopefully the album will be as good as the art makes it look.

Music Review: Damaged Lady by KARA

Genres: Dance, Pop, K-Pop
Members: Gyuri, Seungyeon, Hara, Nicole, Jiyoung
Released: 2 September 2013
℗ DSP 미디어

Woohoo! KARA is back. I've been loving the past few albums and I was eagerly anticipating their comeback. Now they're finally here with their new album Full Bloom and their single Damaged Lady. Before I begin the review of the song, I just wanted to take a moment to say that they looked absolutely gorgeous in the music video!

Damaged Lady definitely isn't my favourite song from KARA although I have to admit, it's still really catchy. The tempo for me seems a bit awkward. It would've sounded better either a bit slower or a bit faster but even so, I did like it. The melody isn't as unique as Pandora was but like the tempo, I still find it catchy. One reason why I love KARA is because they can actually sing. Of course they're beautiful as well but they're voices sound spectacular together and separately. The reason why I gave the vocals a four is because of the production. I know that this isn't their fault, but I hated that the vocals sounded a bit quiet compared to the melody. I did however love the electric guitar used in the song along with all the other layers of music.

The lyrics aren't really cute or super meaningful but I loved them because they were real. They are about someone who has just come out of a relationship and hates being surrounded by couples. "Yes I’m not nice, a damaged lady," really portrays how the person would actually be feeling. My favourite lines when translated to English:
"The sky’s not on my side, why so harsh?"
"What an embarrassing day for me
Crying all over now
The sky is too bright
I can’t raise my head."

Overall, Damaged Lady is a really catchy song that I'd listen to over and over. Definitely check out the music video. Plus, just a side note, I didn't do a Music Of August but I'll try make it up next month.
