Discussion: Song Vs. Artist

A different kind of post today. I'll try to keep it short, simple and straight to the point. As the title says, today, I'd like to discuss song vs. artist. If you love a particular artist, will that affect your opinion of the song? If you hate a particular artist, would you be less inclined to listen to it? With all the media, celebrity artist can easily get into scandals. They could tweet or post something on Facebook that you completely disagree with. Artists might post things that you think is funny or something you can relate to. What I'm wondering though is, do you let this affect your opinion? I wish I could say that I judge songs solely on the songs. I'd be lying if I said that though. I have to admit that if a band has a cute member or someone I think has a fun online personality, I'd be more bias towards their song. It goes the other way around too. If I don't like a particular artist, I'd enjoy their song less. The song itself definitely impacts what I think about it, so I guess the real question is: Do you let who the artist is change your opinion of the song? Song vs. artist? I'm artist.

Review: Reminded of You 떠올라 by Baek Ji Young 백지영

Reminded of You Baek Ji Young

Genres: K-Pop, Dance-Pop, Disco Dance
Released: 24th May 2013
WS Entertainment

I was so excited for Baek Ji Young's comeback. Like expected, it didn't disappoint. Though it's a bit different from her usual R&B, this song was so good. I legit just wanted to get up and dance. I loved Good Boy by Baek Ji Young which came out awhile ago. I can't believe she's 37 and still as pretty as ever. I'm just sad that this will be her final release before she gets married.
Song:
Baek Ji Young has a very powerful voice that can effortlessly perform in high and low ranges. The first few verses of the song are a bit lower compared to the last verses. I loved the electronic sounds that played in the background and how they didn't ruin her voice. Some voices only sound good with more soulful music but Baek Ji Young rocked the synthy beats. I also liked the repetitive but nice drum beats in the background and how sometimes another faster layer is added on top of it. Even if some people won't understand it, it sounds amazing as it is.
Lyrics:
Even though this song is so upbeat and uplifting, it is a break up song. My favourite lyrics in the song translate to:
"Now I will erase you, my heart is too tired
Though I know this is only momentary
You forgot me although you know I started to really hate you"
Those lines are so meaningful and all the symbolism and stuff makes it really nice. The part that sounds the nicest is romanized as:
"ni-ga tteo-olla jakku tteo-olla
nareul tteona modeun ge lie lie
ni-ga tteo-olla jakku tteo-olla
nan beokchaolla gaseumtteojil-keotkata"
Summary:
This is the type of song that I'll listen to for a long long time. I can't wait for the music video! I definitely think that a lot of people would enjoy this kind of music. I can't promise it will be the best song you've ever heard but I'm really encouraging you to give it a try. All it takes is one click.

Review: All For Love by Lady Antebellum

Genres: Country, Country-Pop, Pop
Released: 7th May 2013
Members: Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, Dave Haywood
℗ 2013 Capitol Records Nashville.

Country music doesn't take up much in my music but I do have the rare Country-Pop album here and there. Lady Antebellum's new album Golden recently came out and I've been really enjoying it. After a few days, I can easily say that my favourite song on the album is All For Love. It is track number 10. When I first saw the title, I expected something really happy but it's a lot more deep and meaningful than that.
Song:
This ballad was absolutely perfect. I loved how dramatic it was. The piano and bass in the background elevated the song even more. The chorus was super powerful with the electric guitar and amazing vocals. Hillary and Charles's voices were both amazing. Though they never sung together, the transition between them was effortless.
Lyrics:
The song is about a frayed relationship. My favourite part is the ending.
"Love, something you know nothing of
Cause if you did, there's still be an us
I did it all for love."
Those lines pretty much sum up the song. A love that's strong but a love without understanding. The lyrics are truly beautiful.
Summary:
Most of my reviews a positive and here's another one. I loved this song! I barely ever review bad songs. Sad songs, yes, but bad songs, no. I love just staying in my room and singing this, hoping that nobody can hear my terrible singing even though my family and neighbours probably can. Even though Lady Antebellum are a Country - Pop band, I don't see much in this song. This is why I feel as though this song can aim at many different audiences. If you love Country music, you'll love this. If you love Pop, you'll love this. If you like ballads, you'll really love this. I hope you'll check it out!

TBLT in April & May 2013!

Hi everybody. TBLT? It's meant to stand for To Be Listened To since TBR is To Be Read. It kind of makes sense. I don't know, I might change it to something else but I thought TBLT works. These are the singles and albums that I'm waiting to listen to that don't come out until May. I decided to do a post for it because I've been able to gather a few albums I'm waiting for. I wanted to do this now instead of the end of the month because there is new music coming out at the end of this month as well. In the order of when they come out:

Am I missing anything good? Are you waiting for any new music too? Also, can anyone think of a better name than TBLT?

Top 5: Reasons Why I Love K-Pop

K-Pop Guest Post Laura

This is going to be the first time I'm doing a guest post on another blog and I'd love to share it. K-Pop has been becoming more and more popular over the past months or years. It has become internationally popular alongside American pop. Some completely understand. Some think it's absurd. And some just really don't care. But why do I love K-Pop? Why do I listen to it even though so many people think that's it's stupid? Well I'm here to give you the Top 5 reasons in no particular order.
Here's my post on Kaitlin's blog:

Review: Set Me On Fire by Bella Ferraro

Genres: Pop, Music
Released: 14 December 2012
℗ 2012 Sony Music Entertainment Australia Pty Ltd.

Song:
This song displays Bella Ferraro's amazing and unique vocals. The instruments are kept to the bare minimum with some piano. Strings aren't brought in until later in the track so that Bella's amazing voice can shine.
Lyrics:
The words are very inspiring and beautiful. Though the track isn't cheerful or uplifting, the lyrics are definitely positive. Songs are meant to be another form of a poem but lately, songs have lost it's poetic meaning. These lyrics are definitely much more thought out with the metaphors, similes and other endless poetic techniques. My favourite part:
"Set me on fire,
With silent kisses like the sunset
Darkness is our playground we call home"
Summary:
Set Me On Fire is my favourite song of the moment and you should definitely check it out! Being Australian, the song doesn't get much hype worldwide but I think she definitely deserves it. As of right now, the video on YouTube doesn't even have 50,000 hits yet. It's so unfortunate because the song, and Bella, are beautiful.
